Course Introduction
SilverSneakers Movement Principles for the Back will prepare you to adapt exercise selection for participants with back limitations while offering alternatives to improve muscular strength, stability, and support movement. You will also gain a practical approach for movement patterns that influence how the back feels and functions in everyday activity.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, instructors will be able to:
- Describe common back conditions in older adults and explain how these conditions may influence movement, posture, and exercise participation.
- Apply safe movement strategies that protect the spine and promote proper alignment during group exercise classes.
- Provide exercise modifications that allow participants to self-select an appropriate option based on their needs and abilities.
- Apply core movement principles for the back, including neutral spine, controlled movement and pain-free range of motion, within class design and instruction.
