Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, instructors will be able to:

  1. Identify common back conditions in older adults and explain how these conditions may influence movement, posture and exercise participation.
  2. Apply safe movement strategies that protect the spine and promote proper alignment during group exercise activities.
  3. Modify exercises appropriately to accommodate participants with back pain, stiffness or other spinal conditions while maintaining class engagement.
  4. Apply core principles of back health, including neutral spine, controlled movement and pain-free range of motion, within class design and instruction.
  5. Observe participants’ posture and movement, recognize warning signs requiring referral, and communicate these effectively while staying within the instructor’s scope of practice.
  6. Implement evidence-based exercise strategies to support strength, stability, flexibility and functional independence in older adults.
