Course Introduction

The SilverSneakers Group Exercise for Back Health course will prepare you to adapt exercise selection for participants with back limitations while offering alternatives to improve muscular strength, stability, and support movement. You will also gain a practical approach and explore key concepts related to movement patterns that influence how the back feels and functions in everyday activity.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, instructors will be able to:

  1. Identify common back conditions in older adults and explain how these conditions may influence movement, posture and exercise participation.
  2. Apply safe movement strategies that protect the spine and promote proper alignment during group exercise classes.
  3. Modify exercises appropriately to accommodate participants with back pain, stiffness or other spinal conditions while maintaining class engagement.
  4. Apply core principles of back health, including neutral spine, controlled movement and pain-free range of motion, within class design and instruction.
