Every participant must have a SilverSneakers chair for seated and standing support. Other tools such as elastic tubing with handles and the SilverSneakers ball are optional.
Chair
The recommended SilverSneakers chairs are straight-backed, armless, steel-gauge chairs with non-contoured seats. The chair is used for:
Placing tools and water bottles within reach
Standing support (behind or to the side)
Seated exercises including Final Stretch and Relaxation
Elastic Tubing with Handles
Optional substitute for yoga straps. This tool helps with flexibility and range of motion when yoga straps are not available.
SilverSneakers Ball
A 6–9 inch semi-soft ball may be used for:
Hand-eye coordination activities
Targeting small muscle groups
Fun and engaging multi-muscle movements
Enhancing muscular endurance
Yoga Mats
This format does not include any floor work; therefore, mats are not needed. Yoga mats provide extra grip and decrease the risk of slipping for those with bare feet. However, the chance of falling increases for those wearing shoes on a mat. For this reason, participants should not stand on a yoga mat while wearing shoes, as it creates a slipping hazard.
