Lesson 3.2: Program Delivery

This is where the entire program comes together. If you recall, the program is built on three core components:

  1. Assessment
  2. Education
  3. Exercise

When combined, these components empower participants to move more safely, build confidence, and maintain independence.

Session Overview

  Week 1, Day 1:
  • Begin with a simple Warm-Up.
  • Demonstrate the assessments.
  • Pair participants and complete the Functional Fitness Assessments:
    • The 4-Stage Balance Test should be administered first followed by the 30-Second Chair Stand Test and be sure to record the scores.
    • The assessments take approximately 15-20 minutes to administer.
  • Introduce the educational topic. On day one, it’s discussing the Fear of Falling and distribute the handout – Check Your Risk for Falling to your participants.
  • Conclude with a modified workout, focusing on the Strength segment and end with the Final Stretch.
  Weeks 2–11:
  • Start each class with the education topic.
  • Lead the master class, following the exercises exactly as they were presented in the Master Class.
    • If you find participants are getting stronger and progressing easily as the weeks go by, encourage them to increase their handheld weights, if weights are available.
  Week 12:
  • Begin with a simple Warm-Up.
  • Demonstrate the assessments.
  • Pair participants and complete the Functional Fitness Assessments:
    • The 4-Stage Balance test should be administered first followed by the 30-Second Chair Stand test and be sure to record the scores.
    • The assessments take approximately 15-20 minutes to administer.
  • Introduce the educational topic. For week 12 it is discussing hydration – Fuel with Fluid.
  • Conclude with a modified workout, focusing on the Strength segment and end with the Final Stretch.

In Summary

Delivering a SilverSneakers® Well-Balanced class is about more than movement. These classes are about creating a structured, supportive experience that empowers participants to grow stronger, safer, and more confident over time. By following the program’s three core components: assessment, education, and exercise—you’ll ensure each class builds upon the last with purpose and clarity.

Start and end the 12-week program with assessments to help participants track their progress. Use the educational topics to spark conversation and deepen awareness. Consistent delivery of the Master Class, paired with encouragement and appropriate modifications will help every participant succeed at their own pace. With the right structure and intention, each session becomes a powerful tool for long-term fall prevention and independence.
