Course Introduction
The SilverSneakers® Well-Balanced program is a comprehensive offering that includes assessment, education, and exercises to help older adults reduce their risk of falls. You’ll explore the many causes of falls, learn how to administer functional fitness assessments, and deliver targeted education. In addition, learn how to deliver exercises to enhance strength, balance, coordination, reaction time, and flexibility/mobility. Upon completion, you will be awarded four (4) continuing education credits toward the renewal of SilverSneakers Foundations.
Course Learning Objectives
- Identify common age-related changes and the risk factors that contribute to falls in older adults.
- Describe how functional fitness assessments help identify individual fall risk and track progress throughout the program.
- Explain the purpose and structure of a five-segment format, including how each component supports strength, balance, coordination, reaction time, and flexibility/mobility.
- Recognize effective teaching strategies, coaching cues, and safety practices that support inclusive, participant-centered exercise classes.
Course Directions
Step One: Review the content.
The SilverSneakers® Well-Balanced online instructor training includes four learning units and corresponding lessons. To progress through the lessons, click “Next” at the bottom of the page. You can review your completed lessons through the table of contents at any time during the course.
Step Two: Complete the final assessment.
After reviewing all the content, including course materials and videos, you must successfully complete the final assessment at the end of the course.
Step Three: Download your course completion certificate.
After completing the course, you can download your continuing education certificate from your profile at instructor.tivityhealth.com. Keep your instructor profile up-to-date and complete all required continuing education.
