Lesson 1.7: Drill Practice

The next five drill practice sessions use the movement blocks we practiced at the beginning of the training. Each movement block has four exercises, each in an 8-count phrase. The four exercises together will complete a 32-count phrase. 

We will practice together, hearing and moving to the 8-count and 32-count phrases. You will have the opportunity to continue practicing with visual aids on the screen to help you identify the musical changes. Lastly, you will continue practicing with no visual or verbal aids.

Practice upper body combination 1, identifying the 8-count and 32-count phrase changes.

Upper body combination 1: 

2x (8ct) shoulders up-down 

2x (8ct) shoulders front-back 

2x (8ct) arms cross-open 

2x (8ct) arms reach front-pull back

Upper body combination 2: 

4x (8ct) alt shoulder roll back

4x (8ct) alt reach across chest

4x (8ct) alt reach up to corners

1x (8ct) double arm push out-down

Practice lower body combination 1, identifying the 8-count and 32-count phrase changes.

Lower body combination 1:

1x (8ct) walk in place

4x (8ct) alt toe tap down

4x (8ct) alt knee lift

2x (8ct) double knee lift

Practice lower body combination 2, identifying the 8-count and 32-count phrase changes.

Lower body combination 2: 

1x (8ct) 4x knee repeater > progression 3x knee repeater, hold 3rd knee up

4x (8ct) alt tap step > (if using 3x knee repeater-hold) step touch

4x (8ct) alt hamstring curl

2x (8ct) squat
