Music
The variety of music that can be used for BOOM MOVE is endless! Using recognizable, high-energy music by a variety of artists and from your genres of choice will create a motivating and fun atmosphere for your participants. Beyond BPM, though, take into consideration both the eras and genres of music that may interest your participants and consider that many boomers listen to both the music of their youth as well as modern songs.
Music for BOOM MOVE should be in the range of 126-140 BPM.
The SilverSneakers Way of Coaching
The SilverSneakers Way of Coaching incorporates motivational techniques to help give participants a helpful nudge to improve.
To motivate your participants:
- Cuing-be clear when giving pre-class instructions. Such as, what to expect for lighting, music volume and signals if they need to leave the room.
- Observation-be sure to observe how they are keeping up with your choreography and tempo. Offer progressions after the majority of participants have mastered the initial options to prevent discouragement. If they feel accomplished, they are more likely to return to class and try harder to achieve the next progression.
- Motivation-offer verbal encouragement and giving them targets to work towards. If they only have two minutes, three sets or one song left, let them know. Keep the energy high by using voice inflection and positive feedback.
- Demonstration-keep the energy up throughout the room by walking around and offering smiles and eye contact to all.
