Course introduction

The SilverSneakers Stress Management Education Series training provides an interactive learning experience that will allow you to confidently and effectively facilitate stress management strategies, including mindfulness practices, for you and your SilverSneakers class participants. As an instructor, you will gain a basic understanding of a variety of the physical and cognitive effects of stress on older adults. This course will include practical tools, such as video demonstration and downloadable scripts to adapt mindfulness practices and techniques into your existing SilverSneakers classes and beyond.

Course learning objectives

By completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Differentiate between good and bad stress. 
  • Describe how stress can negatively affect overall health.
  • Recognize the overall health benefits of mindfulness and meditation.
  • Provide effective strategies to manage stress in everyday life.
  • Guide participants in relaxation and stress management techniques as part of a SilverSneakers format class.

Step One: Review the content

The SilverSneakers Stress Management Education Series online instructor training includes four learning units and corresponding lessons. To progress through the lesson material, click “Next” at the bottom of the page. To complete each unit, answer the questions in the unit review quizzes. You can review your completed lessons through the table of contents at any time during the course.

Step Two: Complete the assessment

All content, including videos and quizzes, is required. After reviewing the course material, you must successfully complete the final assessment.

Step Three: Download your course completion certificate

After completing this course, you can download your continuing education certificate from your profile. Keep your profile up to date and complete all required continuing education.
